YOU + ME = WE

QUEER SEX ED AND HEALTHY RELATIONSHIPS PROGRAM FOR YOUTH

“You + Me = We” represents the collaborative partnership between individuals, united in a common goal, shared experience, or mutual understanding. It embodies the strength and potential that emerge when two or more people come together, combining their unique perspectives, skills, and strengths to create something greater than the sum of its parts.

When it comes to sexual and relationship health education, it is not “one size fits all”. LGBTQ+ youth deserve sexual health education that is inclusive of their experiences, identities, and relationships while making sure they have accurate information to stay safe and healthy. The Safe Space NOVA healthy relationship program is designed specifically for Safe Space NOVA youth, using a hybrid virtual and in-person setting over the course of four sessions that will give participants the chance to learn and ask questions about body autonomy, consent, safer sex practices, communication and boundary-setting, and more. This program is more than just sex education; we offer tips and tools to help young folx feel safer and empowered in love, like, and anything in between.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT TRAINING FOR ADULT ALLIES (SERVICE PROVIDERS)

This comprehensive training program empowers professional service providers to effectively support LGBTQ+ youth in their community. By enhancing self-awareness and understanding of core LGBTQIA+ concepts, participants will be better equipped to foster inclusive and respectful environments. Join us to learn how to guide youth through the complexities of dating and relationships, helping them form healthy connections and avoid unhealthy and abusive relationships.

Social Hangs

(AKA SOCIAL SUPPORT GROUPS or "hangs")

Join us for our monthly regional social hangs open to all teens from across the DMV. These social hangs provide an opportunity for LGBTQIA+ youth to hang out in an adult-facilitated safe space and discuss school, coming out, dysphoria, making friends, dating, politics, family, and any other deserved topics. Every month has a new activity that is student initiated by our student ambassadors! These social hangs are aligned with our mission in creating a sense of protection, encouragement, and comfort to the LGBTQIA+ youth who are experiencing social stigmas, bullying, and other challenges.

Student Ambassadors

The student ambassador program recruits LGBTQ+ young people in high school or local college freshman who wish to build leadership, communication, and advocacy skills related to serving their communities. Student ambassadors can work as influencers, pride prom, social programs, or outreach with Safe Space NOVA. They will meet with staff every month to two months to advance their skills and ideas. Students can earn volunteer hours as well as college/scholarship/job recommendations.
