This edition of #TellYourStoryTuesday takes a look at what the “Coming Out” experience was like for Emerson Evans. Evans is a strong supporter of Safe Space, Inc. and has volunteered with the non-profit whenever called upon.

“My coming out experience wasn’t on my own terms nor was it easy. I was confronted by a family member and decided to face my truth at that time. After revealing my attraction to men, one of my parents told me that I was cursed. While this was a knee jerk reaction to my coming out  and I have that parent’s full support now, those words will be stained in my memory forever.

You are not cursed. There is nothing wrong with you. You are a beautiful and courageous human being with the ability to do anything you set your mind to. Don’t let anyone, a friend, parent or family member, defer your dreams and aspirations by trying to make you feel less than. Now go out and change the world, you’re just what society needs right about now.”

Thank you, Emerson, for sharing your story with us. These are words that someone needed to hear today. Coming out is different for everyone, however, it’s effective when these personal stories are shared because you never know if someone may be going through a similar situation or whether it will provide words of encouragement for someone struggling to find the courage to live in their truth.
